Tahuna – Queenstown Ambassador
“If you think the scenery and landscapes are amazing, wait ‘til you meet the people!”
Queenstown Ambassador – connecting with people in ways that make a real difference.
The Queenstown Ambassador programme is a course designed for people engaging with both New Zealand and international visitors across the Wakatipu basin. The aim is to create storytellers and ambassadors with real pride in their place – the Queenstown Lakes region.
The programme helps to build your knowledge of history and locations around the Wakatipu to proudly share; to extend your cross-cultural understanding to authentically connect with visitors; and to grow your business by providing simple tools to develop the overall visitor and customer experience. Ambassador is for everyone whether new to the area or you have lived here for a lifetime.
Participants engage in a three-hour workshop delving into the history and unique story of Queenstown and surrounding areas, including early Māori history and legends, the experience of early settlers, and how the local economy has evolved up to the present day.
This bespoke programme also explores how to connect with visitors from key international visitor markets, ensuring they’re left with a positive and lasting impression of the Queenstown Lakes region.
On successful completion of the programme and Ambassador quiz, participants will receive a Queenstown Ambassador lapel pin.
The programme is delivered by local facilitators on a Friday morning from 9am – 12pm, $30 + GST per person.
Ambassador is endorsed by Queenstown Chamber of Commerce, Destination Queenstown, Queenstown Lakes District Council and the wider tourism and hospitality industry.
People do business with people they like. Taking ownership and pride in our town makes it easy to connect with any visitor or customer whether they are known to you or not. It’s the things that cost nothing which create the best visitor experiences.
Connect with your place and your community. Understand and respect the past, show pride in your town and develop your local knowledge to share with others.
Take pride in what you do, build cultural knowledge, your own reputation and brand consistency. We journey through the continual growing markets of China and India, looking at how we can authentically connect with these visitors.
Ambassador inspires people and grows businesses by providing tools to ensure a positive and totally memorable customer experience.

“Regardless of the destination it is always the contact with locals that cements the appeal of a location and a desire to return or encourage others to visit. This is a great initiative which will have huge benefits for the Queenstown Lakes and one that I whole-heartedly support and encourage everyone to participate in.”
~ Vanessa Van Uden, former Mayor, QLDC.
